Adoption creates a unique dynamic in mothering because an adopted child always has two mothers. Even if they never have contact after placement, their birth mothers are still very much a part of who they are. For some, this can seem like a sad thing for an adoptive mother – the fact that you’ll never be a child’s only mother. But for others, it can be seen as a blessing – a way of sharing and expanding the shared gift of love for a child.
