It is a great day for UAB’s football team and the Sysamek family. Why? Because UAB will be wearing 100 specialized jerseys, honoring the Sysamek family and others who have adopted children with special needs.
The team is doing amazing things as they are raising awareness for Children’s Harbor Family Center–a place connected with the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children. The Children’s Harbor Family Center provides patients and families with a place that doesn’t actually feel like a hospital, featuring crafts, activities, games, counseling and educational resources.
“Children’s Harbor has absolutely become a part of the Blazer family, ” Bill Clark, the UAB coach said. “I intend for this relationship to grow with our program. As we build, there will be even more we can do to provide encouragement and a positive distraction to support the terrific work Children’s Harbor does.”
The Sysamek family, as well as others, are especially grateful for the boost this will give their children. Five of the Sysamek’s children are adopted, and all of them require special care. On talking about adoption, Nikki Sysamek states that she and her husband just wanted to “share the love of Christ.” They love their children with all their hearts and couldn’t be more happier to be a family of 11.
