You Didn’t Grow Under My Heart, But In It

Any adoptive parent will tell you that DNA is not a requirement for family. That the love they have for their adopted children is not at all dependent on whether or not the child has their eye color or nose shape or cowlick or laugh. They will tell you that they worked hard to bring their child into their family, and that they, too, experienced labor, in their own way – sacrifice and challenges that shaped their hearts and prepared them for  the gift of a new child.
