As a child, Liz spent 7 years in the US foster care system. She now works as a social worker in child welfare. She is also a foster/adoptive mom. She says she often has prospective foster/adoptive parents ask her what they can do to get kids who don’t have a lot of behavioral issues.
She writes, “In my own process of becoming a foster parent, I was not exempt from such fears. Then, I found my fears becoming a reality after taking a five-year-old boy into my home. The first gift I ever received from this foster son was a picture of a man punching a woman in her face.”
