From CASA, To Foster Parent, To Dad

Tom Bauer was hesitant to be part of CASA, an organization that advocates on behalf of children in the foster care system. In fact, he didn’t even like kids. But a friend agreed to do the training to be a CASA and so Tom went.

When he read Jon’s file, Tom couldn’t believe what Jon has been through. Neglect and abuse from his home sent Jon to the foster care system. Tom and Jon met weekly and there began their bond. They would go to the beach, play games, and visit restaurants together. Their bond grew so much that when Tom felt it was time for Jon to have a family, Tom wanted it to be him and his partner that adopted Jon.

Although Tom’s partner had some catching up to do when it came to bonding, the couple agreed to adopt Jon. The couple became Jon’s foster parents before the adoption.

Now the family is closer than ever. They play with the five rescue pugs and go to Sunday church together. To think that this family came together because Tom did something out of his comfort zone. Their lives have been changed forever, and perhaps for the better.
