Sometimes in adoption, it’s hard to separate the facts from the myths. There’s a lot of misinformation out there, often perpetuated by made-for-TV dramas, sensationalized news stories, and gossip spread by your Aunt Mabel about her neighbor’s cousin’s brother who adopted.
But with a little time and research, you can familiarize yourself with the truth about adoption. Once armed with the truth, you’ll be equipped to educate others.
While researching adoption, it’s a good idea to only use reputable resources for your research. There are several well-known organizations that complete surveys and compile data to release to the public. These include the US State Department, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, and the National Council for Adoption.
