Police Officer Adopts Homeless Mother’s Newborn Child

A police officer adopts a homeless mother’s newborn baby who is addicted to opioids.

Ryan Holets, from Albuquerque, was responding to a call about a possible theft when he met Champ, the mother of the baby he was destined to adopt. Holets went around behind the store to find Champ nearly eight months pregnant. She was shooting up heroine right on the spot.

“Why do you have to be doing that stuff? It’s going to hurt your baby,” Holets said to Champ.

Instantly, Champ started to weep, knowing that what he was saying was true. However, even though his scolding hurt her feelings, she sensed that he cared about her nonetheless.
