I Needed To Be Her Mother

“If the standard route for creating a family had worked for me, I wouldn’t have met this child. I needed to know her. I needed to be her mother. She is, in every way, my daughter.”

Sometimes the road to adoption is a long and winding one. Most people plan on becoming parents through pregnancy and birth. It can be excruciatingly painful when that road doesn’t pan out – nevertheless, many adoptive parents who come to adoption after foster care express a sense that there was something higher at work in their story. That their children were meant to be their children.
