Choosing an adoptive family for your child is very important and very overwhelming. There are so many options and paths for you to follow that it can be difficult to know which would be best for your child. Don’t worry. As one birth mother stated, “A mother’s intuition is real–you know what’s best for your child.”

However, there are a few things to consider when you’ve made the decision to place your child. Some of these things are as follows: Do I want an open adoption? Does their education or location matter? What about their religious views? Really think about what is important to you and to your baby. What sort of things could be considered “deal breakers” when it comes to the family who is going to raise your baby?

Although it may seem overwhelming and impossible when you are searching for the right family, remember to follow your heart. We know it’s cliché, but that will really be one of the most helpful things you could do. When you’ve found the right family, you’ll know.
