A Mother’s Instinct

“There is an instinct in a woman to love most her own child – and an instinct to make any child who needs her love, her own.” – Robert Brault

Adoptive mothers around the world will tell you that the love they have for their children does not rely one whit on biology. They will often tell you that the love came to them at first sight, though others will say that it took time to develop. But I think this quote gets to the truth of a situation – when you feel that a child needs you and depends on you, you can’t help but think of that child as your “own.” The crux of that love comes from the sweet reliance that a child has on its mother, and a woman’s natural desire to nurture and love.
