Uncle Becomes Dad to Five Through Adoption

At 41, David Watkins has gone from being “Uncle David” to just “Dad” to not one but five children, ages 8 to 22.

At 36, Watkins had just moved to Portland. Oregon, 1000 miles away from his family. He was ready to settle down and start a new adventure in life, but life had different plans for him. Before he’d even found a job, he got a phone call from his mother. His sister had lost custody of her five children. Could he come and help out?

Thus began one bachelor’s unplanned, challenging, but worthwhile journey into parenthood.
