Beginning next year, the Missouri Adoptee Rights Act will allow all adoptees in the state of Missouri to access to their original birth certificates. Until now, only adoptees born before 1941 could do so.
The bill was sponsored by state representative Don Phillips, who is an adoptee himself. He says helping to get this piece of legislation passed has been his biggest accomplishment as a legislator. He said, “It’s more than worth it. It absolutely is. It’s the most remarkable thing that I’ll ever accomplish, as far as legislation goes. I don’t care how good or how big it gets, there won’t be anything any better than this.”
