Michaela De Prince: Civil War Survivor, International Adoptee, Professional Ballerina

Michaela De Prince is a professional ballerina. Besides being an exquisite dancer, she is a warrior who has overcome tremendous difficulties to become who she is today.

A huge part of her story is her adoptive family. At the age of four, after walking 100 miles to a refugee camp because her orphanage was slated to be bombed, she was adopted by an American family. She gives much of the credit for her success to her adoptive family.

“My adopted family really believed in me, especially when I didn’t believe in myself,” she said. “My parents gave me hope, my family gave me hope, and dance gave me hope.”
