Birth Mothers Have to Accomplish…

This quote touches on an important topic of loss and letting go in adoption placement.  A birth mother has to learn to let go shortly after birth, something most parents don’t have to do for many years and take for granted. We dismiss the loss that is behind adoption out of self preservation. By acknowledging the sacrifice and pain that accompanies adoption, we set ourselves up to be better parents, friends and family to each other.  We can have successful open adoption relationships and help our children process their own loss.

Birth mothers have to accomplish in one day the monumental task of letting go that most parents have 18 years to figure out.
