Ben Deen was adopted from a foster home in South Korea when he was just a baby. Though he grew up in a part of the US that wasn’t ethnically diverse, his parents (whom he describes as “the best people I know”) made an effort to expose him to Korean culture and food. But he wasn’t ever interested. Then, as a young adult, he began to become more curious about who he was and where he came from. He started learning Korean and even reached out to the adoption agency that had helped coordinate his adoption. Things were moving pretty slowly on that front and he wasn’t really making a huge effort in his search, either. It just wasn’t that pressing.
And then received an unexpected Facebook message.
