When adoptive Mom Laura Boccaleone was asked to speak to prospective adoptive parents at an information meeting, she began reflecting on what she wished she had understood before adopting.
She writes, “Back then I was looking for a child, I wanted to be a mum. In my dreams everything would have worked out fine eventually, we would have been the perfectly smiling family you see in magazines. Adoption was only a short stop on the way there, with no real prat in our daily life, and only mentioned on Family Day.”
Laura quickly discovered that there is much more to adoption than simply assimilating a child into your family . . . and there are three huge concepts she wants other prospective adoptive parents to understand.
